The Last Minute Baby Shower, How to Plan a Baby Shower in a Hurry

Maybe you just found out that no one is hosting a baby shower for a friend. Maybe things were left to the last minute. Or maybe there was an emergency that meant the shower had to be moved up. Whatever reason you’re hosting a last minute baby shower, you can really throw a fabulous, stress-free baby shower in no time. That is how.

First, you will need to start thinking about invitations right away. Typically, you want to have the invitations in the hands of your guests at least two weeks before the event. If you are two weeks old or less, consider calling guests to invite them. Let them know that the shower is coming together at the last minute and therefore you don’t have time to pull out the invites, but would really like them to attend. If you know some of the guests well, ask them to help you with the calls. If you are more than 2 weeks old, you can take out your invitations. If you’re making progress on the 2-week mark, consider making a simple invitation printed on pretty paper and mailing it in. You’ll save time and make sure everyone knows about the shower. If you have 3 or more weeks until your shower date, you can safely order invitations and have them in time to send to the shower. Order pre-printed shower invitations so all you have to do is address the envelope and mail it. This will save you a lot of time and ensure that you can get them out on time.

Once the guests are invited, you will need to think about the food and the dishes. You should order your cake right away, as many good bakers need at least a week, if not a couple of weeks in advance. After ordering the cake, you can start thinking about what foods and drinks you will serve in the shower and what you will serve them on. Since you’re going to be busy getting everything ready for the shower, plan foods and drinks that you can buy pre-made or that are fairly simple to prepare. Then consider what you would like to serve your guests on. If you have a few weeks, you will have time to get themed party supplies if you wish. If you have less time, consider buying some good clear plastic plates from the store. They are much more elegant than paper, but disposable, so you won’t have many dishes left to wash. You can also serve it on your own plates, which can add a very classy touch.

The rest of your shower planning will be pretty routine. Choose games that don’t require a lot of work beforehand. Prizes can easily be purchased at a local store. Lotion, soap, and other small packets are great prizes and can be easily picked up while you’re in the story anyway.

The most important key to planning a last minute baby shower is getting help. Don’t try to do everything yourself. Recruit friends who also know the mom-to-be to help you do everything. You can even have more fun planning your shower in a hurry than if you had more time! And remember, simple is beautiful.
