Six different types of team players – which type are you?

Many studies are done each year to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the personality and type of team player. Do different types of team players have an advantage? If everyone possesses more or less the same skills, many facets of the project or task will be difficult to tackle and the entire team-building exercise will be frustrated.

A team is never homogeneous and it never should be for it to succeed. The essence of an organizational team is the variety of skill sets they bring to the table. Different types of team players, each contributing their own individual skills or domain knowledge to carry out the task and finish it with efficiency and experience.

Members of the analytical team:

While one team member may be very good at analytical skills, the other may be able to organize and collect information and data in a coherent manner.

Communications experts:

Another player may be very good at articulating and communicating difficult concepts and strategies to everyone.

Strategy and planning think tanks:

Some are very good at strategizing and making plans on the drawing board, and others are very adept at executing and carrying them out.

Team managers and captains:

Some are very good leaders, they have a great vision and project the goals and objectives to be achieved, they share that vision and make the goal a common goal for everyone in the team.

Hard workers and finishers:

There are team workers who are happy to follow instructions and work like a horse on a task and win hearts and recognition with their period of hard work.

Difficult and troublesome type:

There may be others who can be domineering, aggressive and the enterprising type trampling everyone else around them.

Just like a football team or a basketball team, people who work together on a job must unite with each other seamlessly and without friction and constantly move toward a common goal. The difference in skills, knowledge, mindset, personal traits, and personality type actually helps the project to reach its logical conclusion more efficiently and effectively.

The whole is just the sum of its part and to find a total or holistic solution, team players with different abilities are more of a necessity than a pain. The key player is the team leader who fastens all the spokes of the wheel to the wheel frame and makes sure that destiny is the goal and motto of everyone involved.
