Is it true that Nutrisystem is not sustainable? here is my opinion

Someone recently asked me if “Nutrisystem was really sustainable in the long term”. The person had looked at the diet and was pretty sure she could stick with this program for a month or two, but she wasn’t sure if this short period of time would give her the results she wanted. And she wasn’t sure how long she planned to stick with the diet, either. I’ll share some of the things we discussed in the next article.

Determine how long you’ll need to take the Nutrisystem to see the results you want: The person in question expected to lose around 60 pounds. Based on company literature, clinical studies, and my own knowledge from experience (and on weight loss forums), I’d say it weighs between 2-4 pounds on average and not unrealistic. So I’ll take the middle of this range and call it three pounds. Again, I don’t think this range is out of the question for someone who is going to be reasonably diligent about consuming the provided food and somewhat smart about adding the recommended side items.

So at three pounds a week, I was expecting about 20 weeks or about five months. I can tell you from my own experiences and opinions that I don’t think this is overwhelmingly difficult. You are offered decent-tasting comfort foods like pizza, fajitas, mac and cheese, ravioli, pretzels, chocolate bars, and pancakes. Most people can find enough food they like among the 150+ options to get a decent amount of variety and satisfaction out of their meals.

And you can always switch and rotate your sides to give yourself even more variety. So while I didn’t think 5 months would be out of reach, I also wanted to know what happens at the end of that time frame (once you’ve lost enough weight). He wanted to know if, after he finally reached his goal, he was supposed to stay on Nutrisystem for longer than if he could quit abruptly. The truth is that that decision is hers, but the company offers you a lot of support in this process.

Nutrisystem maintenance after you’ve reached your weight loss goals: Once you’re happy with your weight, you’ll want to decide how (or if) you want to leave the plan. Some people will choose to stay on the plan, at least for a little bit, because it’s become a habit and because it’s easy. Some will choose to add a Nutrisystem meal or two to their daily lives, as they feel more comfortable with regular foods. And, some will simply try to take what they’ve learned about healthy eating on the plan and use that knowledge to make healthy choices with regular foods from the start.

One thing many people don’t know about the Nutrisystem is that they offer free advice throughout their experience. You can very easily call (or chat in real time) and have a counselor work with you to come up with a plan for transitioning back to regular food. This process is really not that difficult. It really just depends on your comfort level, your decisions about how quickly you want to stop eating diet foods, and how you can incorporate what you’ve learned along the way. Many people underestimate this. If you’ve been following along, using free advice, and making smart decisions with your sides, this process might actually be a little easier than you think.
