How to replace a kitchen sink

Do you need to change your kitchen sink? Well, you came to the right place. The kitchen sink sits on the true throne of the home, your countertop. These days kitchen cabinets are the pinnacle of the place and that old rusty kitchen sink you have doesn’t help them show off their shine.

To replace a kitchen sink, you’ll need a few tools. Every sink is a little different, so you may need a few more tools than I’m listing and you may not need some:

– screwdriver
– spatula
-hammer
– assortment of keys
– curve

The first thing to do is select a new sink. If you haven’t already, try to choose a sink that complements your countertop and, more importantly, fits the same dimensions as the old sink. Don’t forget to consider replacing your faucet as well. After all, what good is a new sink with a dirty old faucet?

Once you have your new kitchen sink, it’s time to remove the old sink.

First turn off the water supply to the hot and cold lines. Then turn the hot and cold knobs to relieve line pressure.

Then carefully disconnect the lines using the appropriate wrenches. also disconnect the drain tube. Also remove any fixtures, garbage disposal, dishwasher lines, etc.

Check under your sink for brackets that may be holding it in place. Some sinks have them, others don’t. If there are brackets, go ahead and remove them now.

Using the hammer, gently tap the putty knife under the rim of the sink to help free it from the countertop. Once the sink is free of the waterproof sealant holding it to the countertop, you can remove it.

Scrape any remaining caulking off the countertop with the putty knife. Try not to damage the surface area.

Make sure your new kitchen sink fits properly by gently placing it into the cutout. remove If it seems too big and your countertop is Formica, you can trim the cutout with a jigsaw. Apply masking tape to the areas to be cut. this will prevent the jig saw from scratching the surface and will help prevent cracking of the Formica laminate.

Apply a new waterproof sealant, such as clear silicone, around the cutout and snap your new sink into place.

Attach the retaining clips (if any) that your sink was packaged with.

Install your new faucet in the sink following the instructions that came with it, then install the drains, garbage disposal, drain, and water lines by reversing the removal instructions.

Turn the water supply back on and check for leaks.

Congratulations! You have a new kitchen sink.
