From a small town to a popular ski resort – Courmayeur Italy

Courmayeur was once a small, unassuming town with two churches, nestled at the foot of Mont Blanc, making it seem even smaller. Today, Courmayeur is a popular ski resort destination. It began in 1786 when two men braved the elements of the mountains and reclaimed their place where no man had succeeded before.

Today, this Courmayeur village offers visitors plenty of mountains and plenty of snow to satisfy their skiing desires. But there is more to this town than just snow skiing. There are mountains to climb and a town steeped in rich history to wander through. The locals are friendly and welcome each and every visitor like family.

Some refer to this area as a comune that is located in the northern part of Italy, in the Valle d’Aosta region and at the base of Mont Blanc. Visitors find plenty to do while staying 4,016 feet above sea level. In addition to the wonderful atmosphere and ski resort setting that Courmayeur offers, there is mountaineering and historical tours, during the summer the beautiful botanical gardens are a sight to see.

Courmayeur does not have the hustle and bustle of big city life and all that transportation means in the big city, which some people may find inconvenient. But going up and down the mountains is easy with plenty of cable cars, chair lifts and gondola lifts. There are many ways to get around this ski resort town of Courmayeur.

Many of the hotels and lodges around town have easy access to any of these trails that will take you to the top so you can ski again. Or hop on a cable car, chair lift or gondola if skiing isn’t on your agenda.
