Don’t determine what’s possible for you based on where your life is right now

Judging your life doesn’t help you

I want you to reflect on what is working for you right now in your life. Is it your relationships, finances, health, family, career, etc.? Now, think about what is not working for you. What area of your life could be improved? Let’s put aside the current circumstances regarding the Coronavirus pandemic because we have little control over what happens. But I invite you to examine the various aspects of your life to see how you could improve it.

We should not think that our life is not working based on where we are now. Sometimes our current situation can be a transition to the next phase of our life. Life is constantly evolving. Judging our current circumstances is like taking a photograph of someone, believing that this is how they will look their whole life. Also, you keep looking at the photograph over the years, thinking that the person is still the same. But this is an illusion, as they will have matured, changed their hair color, perhaps lost weight, or changed other aspects of their appearance. What I am saying is: If we judge our life based on a snapshot of where we are, we lose what is yet to be developed..

Are you comfortable with the idea that your life is constantly evolving? It would be remiss of you to decide what is not possible based on what is missing or not working. I hope you get the impression that judging your life doesn’t help you move on to the next chapter, but it does keep you stuck in your current situation. Naturally, we evaluate life through the lens of disappointment and discouragement. Many people do this because they want to fix what is not working. But what if your life is not broken and you are judging it unfairly? I mean, maybe the pieces of your life are still coming together and looking disjointed because the whole picture is not complete?

Everything is possible for you

What we need to do is work to see what our life should look like, knowing that the pieces may not fit together as it is still coming together. Is it starting to make sense, where judging your life is meaningless because life constantly flows through us like a stream? The Greek philosopher Heraclitus said: “No man steps on the same river twice, because it is not the same river and he is not the same man.” He was referring to the ever-changing speed at which our life ebbs and flows. What we are sure of today may be irrelevant tomorrow. This is evident right now regarding the Coronavirus. Scientists and infectious disease experts are only safe from today’s data because things are not changing at an ever-increasing rate.

And so it is with your life. Things may seem like they are working against you today, and suddenly everything may fall into place tomorrow. It is when we look back at our life, we can see that our failures and mistakes had to happen, to get us to where we are today. Everything is possible for you, as long as you keep moving forward and do not lose hope for a better future. If you give up, you stop taking risks and settle for what you have. Unfortunate things happen to people every day. They can cause setbacks and frustration because we think we are not making progress. But these thoughts are an illusion, devised by the egoic mind to protect us from being hurt. But ask any successful person and they’ll tell you, some of the best things that happened to you came out of nowhere. They happened when they least expected it, while pursuing their goals and dreams.

With this in mind, I would like you to draw on a sheet of paper or on your phone, three columns with the titles: What is working for me? Y What doesn’t work for me. In the third column write: What is the lesson? Take some time to analyze the questions I asked you at the beginning of the article, regarding what works for you and against you. This will give you an idea of how your life is going and if you need to intervene. Sometimes interfering in our life is like throwing a stone into a serene pool that disturbs the pristine water. Instead of, allow life to organize around you and through you, to give you what you need at the right time. After all, if we determine what is possible based on where we are, we will lose life’s potential to deliver what we need, when we least expect it.
