Decorating your master bedroom – Tips and ideas

Your master bedroom should be a sanctuary for rest and relaxation. For many of us, however, it is the most forgotten room in the house. It becomes a last priority in the rush of life. Whether time or money is the reason your master bedroom is neglected, these tips should help you quickly transform a drab bedroom into a master suite at a price anyone can afford.

First, evaluate the layout of the room. Is there a design that best suits your purposes? Is there a way to arrange the furniture to make it look more attractive? Remember, furniture doesn’t have to be flat against the wall. A bed straddling two corners offers a nice look.

Next, take a look at the colors in the room. What is the predominant color or colors? You like them? If not, make a change. Painting the walls of a bedroom can add color in an instant. This is the cheapest way to make a dramatic difference. Don’t fall victim to white walls. Find a cake that fits your color theme. Or, if you’re feeling daring, choose a darker color and paint a wall with it.

Fabric is another way to add flair to a boring bedroom. While choosing window treatments is important, the influence of fabric doesn’t have to end there. Find a fabric that adds color and texture to your room and hang it as a wall decoration. Window dowel rods are not reserved for just windows. Hang them anywhere you want to add some fabric. Adding accent drapes to a room, even on a mock window, can make a world of difference in a room’s appearance.

When choosing the fabric for the walls and windows, consider the color and pattern of the bedding. Getting a whole new duvet or comforter can be expensive. However, there are other options. Add a blanket in a complementary color or pattern to the foot of the bed to add a fresh look. Or, fold the cover down halfway to expose a flattering throw. If you choose to replace your comforter or duvet cover, choose a neutral color that blends easily with your other colors. You can also use it again during your next bedroom makeover.

A headboard for your bed does not have to be expensive. In fact, with a little creativity, you can have a unique headboard for very little cost. A carved wooden screen can be found at discount stores or resale stores. Remove the hinges and mount the screens on top of the bed with framing wire. Or, buy six to nine picture frames with mats. Instead of using images, use your favorite wallpaper or wrapping paper to add an accent to the room.

Making your own canopy is another romantic-looking option. Install a curtain rod over the head of the bed. Add a lightweight fabric, like tulle, in a soft color. For an even more sophisticated look, hang the rods over each end and sides of the bed for a fully encircling canopy.

As a final touch in your bedroom, you can add some accents. Lamps add a nice touch and don’t have to be expensive. Check out yard sales, flea markets, or thrift stores for unique lamps. Clusters of candles and accent pillows also make a nice complementary look.

Reforming your bedroom does not have to be expensive. You can quickly transform your sleeping shelter by making a few simple changes to color and texture that will make a world of difference.
