Aaron was his name but a hurricane was his game

Some are concerned that New Orleans could be hit again and ruin all debris cleanup and rebuilding efforts and cost taxpayers even more billions of dollars. So far, we’re looking at a bill of over 200 billion and well, imagine the final bill after whiny Ray Nagin finishes milking us? Not to mention all the lawyers who sued for mold and eventually made us turn it into a Toxic Waste Fund Super Site. My goodness, the New Orleans “Disaster Bowl” is going to be more like a bottomless pit of wasted tax dollars.

But could another hurricane really hit New Orleans? You certainly could imagine a Hurricane Aaron of August 3, 1995 making landfall just 120 miles west of where it struck? Certainly that would cause another breach in the levee and all our hard work, prayers and diligent rebuilding efforts would vanish in an instant and we would be left with more lost dollars and rubles.

My question is, are we doomed to repeat? Well, we certainly are and unless we rebuild New Orleans with a completely different game plan, then that city that is already sinking 2 inches per year every year is like sinking again. You know, as for the human species being at the top of the food chain, one has to wonder why we last so long. Surely if our ancestors were as foolish as we are, there must be 100 if not thousands of cities lost and buried under water, underground and buried by Mother Earth. Consider this in 2006.
