A closer look at the HTC Wildfire

This summer, HTC launches its latest phone, the Wildfire. This is an Android phone released at a cheaper price in an attempt to win many new fans.

When it comes to multimedia usage, the Wildfire looks like an impressive phone. The usual camera setup is there, rated at 5 million pixels. To ensure images are always sharp, autofocus is a welcome addition, as is the LED flash, making taking pictures in low-light conditions a much more satisfying experience. The phone also supports geotagging. Geo Tagging is a process that adds geographic information to photos, for the user this means that the phone stores information about exactly where and when each photo is taken. The Wildfire can also capture video, perfect for those impromptu summer moments you don’t want to miss. The addition of a 3.5mm headphone jack is welcome, which ultimately means that any headset can be used with the phone. You can even listen to local or national radio thanks to HTC’s built-in FM tuner in the unit. MP3, WAV, and AAC files are among the crowd Wildfire supports, and with the addition of a 32GB microSD card, there’s always plenty of space to store your music. For those looking for more basic phone tasks, the 512MB of onboard memory will suffice.

The HTC Wildfire runs on the Android 2.1 operating system, a platform that many manufacturers have built on; however, the overlay of HTC’s own “Sense” user interface adds a real wow factor to proceedings thanks to gorgeous menu systems and clever touches. that make using the phone a really fun experience. One aspect of Sense that will immediately appeal to young people is the Friendstream widget, which collects friend information from a large number of social networking sites and brings it all together in one place. For the user, this basically saves logging into Facebook and then Twitter to keep up to date. Obviously, these features require excellent connectivity and Wildfire features EDGE, GPRS and 3G, so no matter where you are, you can always stay up to date. And even when you’re at home, the inclusion of WiFi means the phone will automatically connect to your own router for an even faster experience.

Thanks to the lower end price point proposed for the HTC Wildfire, this could well be the phone to bridge the gap between feature phones and smartphones and ultimately please a legion of mobile phone fans in everyone.
