The Samsung Galaxy S2 and LG Optimus 3D: Which is the best smartphone?

Since the launch of the LG Optimus 2X, the first smartphone to feature a dual-core processor, several more phones now feature this next-generation technology. Among these are the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the LG Optimus 3D. In this article, I will make a comparison of these two phones so that you can decide which one comes out first. To offer a fair comparison, I will discuss some of the features that are most important when choosing a new smartphone.

Camera

Obviously, a smartphone wouldn’t be a smartphone if it didn’t come with a built-in digital camera. The Samsung Galaxy S2 offers a high-spec 8-megapixel offering, with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from the manufacturer’s flagship device. Thanks to the high pixel resolution provided by the 8 million pixel count, the resulting images are of fantastic quality and the camera can even record 1080p HD video images as an added bonus. The LG Optimus 3D’s camera is a 5-megapixel unit, but it offers the ability to record 3D video as the name of the phone suggests. It largely depends on which personal preferences are best; Is 3D an important aspect for you? If so, then the LG Optimus 3D is the best camera phone, but for all the features and results, you might prefer the Samsung Galaxy S2.

Operating system and user interface

The Samsung Galaxy S2 ships with the latest version of the Android operating system, version 2.3, also known as Gingerbread. The LG Optimus 3D comes with the older version 2.2 but can be upgraded to the later version. Therefore, both phones can access Android Market, where users can browse thousands of applications from many different categories and download them directly to the phone. In addition to the Android operating system, each manufacturer has provided their custom Android operating system. In the case of the LG Optimus 3D it is LG’s 3D user interface, and the Galaxy S2 has the TouchWiz v4.0 user interface. Each of these is provided simply to simplify the navigation and functionality of the operating system itself. Both allow users to customize their user interface and assign various applications and widgets to individual home screens, as well as set themes and color schemes for the user interface. One is not necessarily better than the other, as they both provide a similar experience, but they do it in a slightly different way, so it is highly dependent on personal preference.

Processor

Both phones have dual-core processors. The LG Optimus 3D comes with a 1 GHz dual-core processor, while the 1.2 GHz offering under the hood of the Samsung Galaxy S2 is a bit more powerful. While the Samsung Galaxy S2 may have a slightly more powerful processor on paper, they both deliver surprising performance. The benefits of dual-core processors are numerous; better web page loading times, longer response times from the touch screen, more efficient multitasking and faster application loading are some of the advantages of this technology.

Both the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the LG Optimus 3D are impressive devices and are among the most advanced smartphones available today. Both are light years away from the vast majority of their competitors. It would be unfair to say that one is better than the other, but on paper the Samsung Galaxy S2 only has the upper hand in terms of specs and performance.
