The best museums in Mexico City
Mexico City is full of culture and history and that can be seen in the many museums scattered around the city. As someone who is visiting for a short time, you may be wondering which museums are not to be missed. While it’s safe to say that most museums will provide you with a lot of new information that you may not have known about in the past, some are far more visited than others. These are the museums that you should not miss when you visit Mexico City.
Anthropology National Museum
The National Museum of Anthropology should be the only museum you visit before any other. Despite the incredible number of great museums in Mexico City, none will offer you as much culture and history of Mexico. In this museum you will find about all the different cities and cultures of pre-Columbian Mexico and you will see some of the most famous artifacts of them, including the Piedra del Sol. There is a fee of 57 pesos which is equivalent to less than 5 dollars. Children under 13 and seniors have free entry and the museum is closed on Mondays.
Frida Kahlo Museum
The Frida Kahlo Museum is not as large as other museums in Mexico City, and yet it is one of the most visited. The museum experienced an increase in visitor numbers in 2002 after the premiere of the movie Frida. Fans of his art and that of Diego Rivera, however, have visited the Frida Kahlo Museum or the Blue House for many years. This was the house where Frida was born and where she did much of her work. She also lived here after her divorce from Diego Rivera until the couple remarried. You will be able to admire much of her work and the artifacts that the artist used.
Palace of Fine Arts
The Palacio de Bellas Artes is one of the most visited sites in Mexico City and is the place where you will find more artistic presentations such as the National Opera Company and the National Symphony. In addition to that, you will find museums and art by the best artists in Mexico, including Diego Rivera. On the fourth floor is the National Museum of Architecture, making Bellas Artes a great stop for those traveling to Mexico City.

The Mexico City Museum is a great place to admire the history of the city. Here you will find paintings by artists who were from Mexico City, old maps, and other important historical works. The admission fee is quite low and you will get a lot for the money.
