Installation of the kitchen sink: how to do it correctly

For most homeowners, kitchen sink installation will no longer be a chore. Proper routing and hole cutting will make installation easier. Proper measurements of the width and depth of the lower cabinets are needed before installing the sink. This will ensure that the new sink to be installed fits exactly into the countertop and lower cabinet.

For the kitchen sink to fit in the cabinet, it must be 22 inches deep from front to back. The standard cabinet size should also be 24 inches to fit if the backsplash is not available. The sink will reach up to 20 ½ inches deep in the countertop if the backsplash is needed. Options will vary and increase if there are changes to the cabinetry along with the countertop. Below are the instructions for installing the countertop kitchen sink:

1. The first step is to correctly locate the opening. The template provided should be positioned in the center of the sink cabinet and from the front edge of the countertop. The measurement from the countertop seam should be at least 1 ½ inches. Paste the template and mark it.

2. The next step is to remove the template after opening the brand. Make a hole in each corner and then insert the blade into one of the holes. Then cut the marking inside the line. Once finished, lift the cutout onto the template.

3. Faucet installation will be the next step along with sink filters. Between the countertop and the kitchen sink, create an airtight seal. And then apply silicone caulking around the perimeter of the sink rim at the bottom.

4. Flip the sink over and place it on the assembly. To support the sink, place some scrap wood along the edge of the opening.

5. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for clip spacing. First remove the excess with a clean soft cloth before tightening the mounting clips. This will prevent the putty from coming out.

6. Attach P-trap to finish kitchen sink installation. Connect the faucet lines to different supply lines and then attach the filters to the waist line. Remove the aerator from the faucet once the water is running, then flush the system. Reinstall the aerator after testing the faucet.
