Alaskan Malamute Training – Chewing Problems

Alaskan malamutes can be a lot of fun indoors, but not when they start chewing on furniture. Read on and learn how to fix this problem as part of Alaskan malamute training.

Dogs chew and gnaw on many things for a variety of reasons. New puppies and dogs can do this because they are teething. They are exploring the new environment in which they live. Alternatively, your dog must be really bored, just looking to pass the time.

Watch your dog closely and catch him red-handed. Be firm and let him know that what he did was wrong. Dogs learn “in the moment” so this method works best. Teach him acceptable behavior, such as chewing on a toy.

If you are not around all the time, it is best to put your dog in a pen or outside the house. Do not leave it unattended for long periods of time, especially near high-value furniture.

Give your dog something to chew on or, better yet, something different to do. Twigs and small tree branches are a great distraction. Dogs love to chew on wood. A large beef marrow should be enough to keep you busy.

You can also buy chew toys of different designs at your local pet store. Some even have the benefit of cleaning your dog’s teeth. Exercising a lot should wear you out.

Chewing is less of a problem, but it can end up costing you a lot of repairs. Address this issue before it gets out of hand.
